DescriptionThe quilt is composed of 20 x 20 cm blocks of diverse recycled fabrics, handwoven and commercial. The colors are mainly reds, blues and browns, solids, floral, stripes and plaids. One type of block is an appliqued square set on point within pieced indigo (various shades) ground. The other type of block, still 20 x 20 cm, is a four square with each small square set on point with various shades of pieced indigo ground. The centers of the squares have a + or an x. Each of the squares, large or small are bound in natural muslin or twill then sewn together. The reverse shows handmade mulberry papers set on diverse brown weaves, used to stabilize and guide composition.Early to mid-20th century
