DescriptionDemir Hisar is north-northwest of Bitola and southeast of the Miyak homeland. The layers of garments and the color harmony seen in all the Miyak outfits is evident here as well. The four upper garments start with the mintan or long-sleeved velvet blouse, then the wedding chemise, pisa koshula, with pisani podvevchi motifs (see page 44), an elek or vest with purple velvet front, and finally a wool coat with vestigial sleeves. A long sash, prepashka, wrapped so the fringe falls over the hips, and an apron, kivchena skutina, with two tiers of fringe surrounds the middle of the body. The red glaina sokay fitted to the head with a seam, and a cord under the chin hangs down the back. A sheer darpna with gold work covers that and holds an igla, a type of head jewelry. Under the pafta the krst shamiya covers the top of the apron (Young Brides, Old Treasures: Macedonian Embroidered Dress, edited by Bobbie Sumberg, 2011).
