ProvenanceThe Macedonian Arts Council, from 2007-2010, presented as a gift to the Museum of International Folk Art 25 ensembles of multiple pieces. While a small number of the pieces were purchased, the majority of the costumes were donated to the Arts Council by collectors based in the United States and Macedonia
DescriptionA newly married woman wore this ensemble on the fourth day of the wedding ceremony, when she went to the well for the ritual handwashing. The garment that distinguishes this from the wedding day ensemble is the chemise, so sedum loz "with seven vines." From the rear, the seven vines can be seen on the sleeve. An embroidered dickey is worn over the chemise. On top of that is a gold-embellished sleeveless jacket, klashenik, several belts to fill out the waist, the apron, skutina, a red print hip scarf covered in sequins, another red scarf tucked into the waist, a short vest, kusale, and a head scarf, korpa. Two pieces of the vest fringe are tied around the scarf fringe to hold it in place.
