DescriptionThe bride's fitted vest, seen in the detail, is called saya. A woman wore it for the first year after her wedding. On her forehead are imitation coins made from brass and tin called tontuzi. An older chemise from the nineteenth century would have had much more embroidery on the hem and sleeve; the entire wedding ensemble was more elaborate then, indicating the tendency to simplification as the twentieth century progressed (Young Brides, Old Treasures: Macedonian Embroidered Dress, edited by Bobbie Sumberg, 2011).Parts of Ensemble: A.2010.19.3a-b, Buckle: Pafti
