DescriptionBlack cotton mask with tatreez emboridery. Face mask made from the embroidered (tatreez) panel of traditional palestinian dress (thobe; the front panel of the dress is known as the qabbeh). It is a popular trend to make decorative home goods, clothing, and accessories from qabbeh. Seventeen-year-old man, Simsim (b. 2004) made face masks in response to a request from Neda, Etsy shop owner (Palestine Made US). Neda sells face masks and other accessories from Palestine. Simsim is from the al-Amari Refugee Camp, Ramallah and al-Bireh Municipality, West Bank, Palestine. His mother makes jewelry for this etsy shop.
