ProvenanceJoanne Polster acquired this Swiss headdress (“schlappe”) and cap as a gift from Swiss expats who returned often to Switzerland.
DescriptionThis stiff cap of white silk lined in red cotton has scalloped edges of gold colored silk. Rest of the cap's surface is covered in scalloped design and floral leaf patterns made of metal and metal cord embroidery over an underlayer of gold-colored foil/ribbon. It is beaded (metal beads) of gold, red and blue and faux pink gemstones. A red satin bow is fastened to center back. A short pinkish tape is on inside back. A hook at front.
