DescriptionFinely carved wood handle, stained dark, with traces of light orange pigment in the central areas of carving. The roughly hewn medium reddish section which inserts into the drum has a rectangular cutout near the dark, carved handle. The handle is carved with three faces near the drum, which share a crown-like section which connects to the drum frame. Below the heads are double interlocking (endless knot) motifs, then lotus-petal like motifs projecting up and down from a central binding, another endless knot atop an elephant figure (could be confused with an avian form) which clutches a snake in each "hand." The back of this three sided figure is also ornately carved with symbols.
