DescriptionOne of a pair of carved wood angels (with 1350). Both of the figures in this group were originally covered with brightly colored paint and bits of reflective glass. They are now weather worn, and primarily monochrome. They wear headdresses and have small wings on their shoulders. The faces are modeled on individual faces, and their gestures are reverential and singular. Color: light brown-grey, with vestiges of colored paint (orange) Technique: Hand carved and decorated. The standing figure supported on a circular lotus base, the hands raised in a position of prayer, wearing a typical formal garment with layers overlapping panels, each panel decorated with carved wood or gesso scroll work and flower heads, the collar and head ornament similarly decorated, traces of original polychrome and gilding and most of the inlay mirrors and glass now missing.
