Descriptionwooden wall plaque or hanging with the inscription "In recognition of the contribution made by the crafts toward universal understanding among peoples" & "This Museum was founded in the year 1950 by Florence Dibell Bartlett." This wood plaque, hand-carved by Gustave Baumann, was presented to the Museum of International Folk Art as a gift in 1950. It was held on display in MOIFA’s lobby from the museum’s opening in 1953 until 1998.In the September 1953 issue of El Palacio commemorating MOIFA’s opening, the Museum of New Mexico gave thanks "To Mr. Gustave Baumann for his contribution of the carved wood plaque in the vestibule and for lettering the inscription over the entrance." Baumann was a personal friend of MOIFA founder Florence Dibell Bartlett.1996
