DescriptionAlaskan parka with dark blue velveteen fabric, white fur trim around hood and hem, and wolverine claws at top of zipper.Bobby Lynn (Qalutaksraq) Brower creates her
velveteen parkas with sunshine ruffs as a nod to
the fact that this style of ruff was meant for special
occasions. The dressy quality of velveteen suits the
formality of the sunshine ruff, which she jokingly
refers to as “a Louis Vuitton ruff.” This ruff retains
the wolverine claws, an acknowledgment of the
skill of the hunter of this ferocious animal.
The rickrack trim, Brower’s unique signature, is a
contemporary variant of the qupak, traditionally
made of hide (from exhibition label text).
