DescriptionFrom upper left (clockwise) A policeman escorts criminal to jail; “Drug related crimes eventually lead to arrest”. A hospital in from of which is an ambulance and room with nurse standing at foot of bed with patient. “You might end up like this.” Man with whip chasing woman who flees below a bottle laden table where two men a one woman drink. “Too much alcohol can lead to violence and woman abuse” hooded figure points gun at person, held by another car robbery. “Most violent crimes are committed on a daily basis by drug dealers.” Man lying on ground, blood streaming from head. Above him a man with his hands on his head and van with license plate, “Drink responsibly of you might be another victim of road accidents.” Above two graves with crosses “Rest in peace”, “Be wise, live longer, and avoid finding yourself in this place before your time.” The houses, buildings, transportation means, (car, ambulance, police truck), and dress is realistic; vegetation is stylized. The depiction of typical house (Ndebele designs) and those of townships indicate crime exists in urban and rural areas. Stiches are stem, herringbone, chain, and satin. Embroidered on side: “Made in South Africa/100% cotton by P. Malope.”
