DescriptionDorsal ridge on both faces,inlaid with two bands of engraved silver of which more than half has survived. Hafting area engraved at guard with scrolls. Where it was originally hollow to admit the pole or staff is now flattened. On the surfaces of this part are engraved: "Yo soi de MA NUEL Lobato" "En SANTA fee AN D 1783." Old collections, no markings. (February 1956.) In 1740, Juan Jose Lobato received permission to the land now called the Lobato grant, although it is much smaller than when given to him. Manuel may have been a son of his.
