DescriptionYouruba bronze bell from Ijebu-ode region, southern Yoruba land. Bells are usually symbols of power with the face representing ancestors. Also a sign of leadership, the bell being displayed in ceremonial processions by the chiefs. This particular bell is distinguished by its large size, its faultless casting and fine details with the nose and mouth of the face in high relief; color is blackened bronze.
