Old #3907 Taqșireh (late nineteenth-early twentieth century) (Plate 7) This taqșireh is a classic Bethlehem jacket. It is of blue wool felt (probably commercial). The embroidery is fine Bethlehem couching (shughl bēt laḥm or talḥameh) with multi- colored silk thread, mostly orange and magenta and some gold metallic thread. The designs are more geometrical and stylized than in jacket no. 2026. They include the classic pitcher motif (sharbeh) on both the front and back, in addition to the usual floresques, arabesques, and the typical Bethlehem bird. On the shoulders is the so-called cypress pattern (sarū). The crocheted edging is of tightly twisted silk thread. The jacket is lined with black wool challis with red dots. Length: 58 cm. Width: 49.5 cm. (Palestinian Costume and Jewelry, Yedida Kalfon Stillman, 1979 ISBN: 0-82630490-7)
