ProvenanceThe donor married a Syrian man and moved to Saudi Arabia in 1976, where she lived for 11 years. During her stay she amassed a large collection of Middle Eastern garments.
DescriptionA black hood with natural cotton lining has "horns" (magruna) of rolled cotton adorned with silver, cowrie shells, and ending in back with three tassels (each side) wrapped and beaded at end. On one side the tassels are green and red and the other leather and silver. The primarily red (with a minimum of green) appliques in geomatric patterns are finished with a) silver, b) white, plastic/pearlized buttons, c) buttonhole stitch, cowrie shells, and d) two coins that complete the back point.Mid-to-late 20th Century
