ProvenanceIn 1993, donor purchased this huipil from the maker in a Santiago Atitlan market; As a flight attendant, she traveled and collected widely.
DescriptionHandwoven on backstrap loom; Hand embroidered; Made of two cotton panels joined with a vertical center seam, the sides of this huipil remain open. The natural white is patterned with vertical dark blue stripes on the upper half, weft stripes also in dark blue form a grid filled with many realistic, well executed birds and vines forming 6 rows on front and back. Large pink roses and vining flowers ring the neckline.
