DescriptionHandwritten and illustrated marriage contract within a blue border, with floral and calligraphic Aramaic text within mihrab forms and body of the contract. Additional calligraphy surrounds the decorative blue border, and is then surrounded by a red gouache border. The contract is matted and framed in gold finished wood. The contract lists the marriage day as Thursday, January 4th, 1877 (the Hebrew Date: 19th Tevet, 5637), in Herat, Afghanistan. The Bride was Shoshana, daughter of Isaac; the Groom was Joseph, son of Joab.
