FA. 72.25-5d Width: 101 cm. Mendil (1930s) This light, factory-made shawl is of dark red wool. It is decorated with machine embroidery in yellow, purple, brown, and pink rayon. The floral motifs are not at all traditional. On all four sides is a brown fringe border, also of rayon. These lighter weight, mass-produced shawls came to replace the heavier shambar. Many of these new mendils were made in a Bethlehem factory. Length: 148.5 cm. Width: 138 cm. Fringe length: 26 cm. (Palestinian Costume and Jewelry, Yedida Kalfon Stillman, 1979 ISBN: 0-82630490-7)
