DescriptionOver a brimmed base of bound straw, a red wool under-brim is carried on by a navy blue brim-edge and top-piece, pieced in 4 quarters which are accented by a white woolen-appearring cotton thread, with braided and criss-cross bars as decoration. Center top is an open circular area revealing a navy wool crown, also cut in 1/4ths. A loosely woven natural wool lining to crown touches head, and woven bands of wool caught at each side of hat crown form ties (this in one in 1 piece). Measurements: 17" diameter; upper hole 5"; crown over-brim, 1.25"; red wool underbrim 5.25"; chin strap 1.25"W x 58" (extends 23" below hat, 6" dangle on either end). [Catalogue card 1952]
