ProvenanceOn display at Coronado Monument Museum, 1940-1952. Withdrawn to MNM, October 1952--too unusual in symbolism to leave at Kuaua as it is a good study piece. No data.
DescriptionUsual figure of St. Jerome with short cloak, red-lined with blue, has cross and stone, trumpet upper right. Instead of the usual lion or dragon seen in New Mexican retablos, there is a large crow or bird grasping two arrows in its claws, with another arrow in its eye. This may refer to his dogmatic deviations of the period. From the arrows in the bird's claws runs an arrow with wavy stem. Green L-shaped form runs from bird to corner and up on right side. Swag at left. In style of Miguel Aragon, as to line, face looks more like Follower.1880 - 1910
